The Rotary Club of Houston Foundation

The Rotary Club of Houston Foundation was organized in April 1967 as a 501(c)3 foundation for charitable, educational and other purposes. Its most significant role occurred in the early 1980's when it received contributions from club members and others toward the construction of what would become the Jesse H. Jones Rotary House International Hotel. Following completion of that history-making residence for cancer patients and their families in the Texas Medical Center, the Foundation continued to receive contributions to its corpus from which to issue financial assistance grants to the Rotary Club of Houston's various community service committees and other charitable activities within and outside of the club.

The principle fundraising event for the Foundation is the annual Rotary Distinguished Citizen Award. The Foundation also receives proceeds from the annual Rotary Lombardi Award, which it forwards to the American Cancer Society as stipulated by the Lombardi family upon the initiation of the annual program. To date, the Foundation has contributed more than 3 million dollars to the American Cancer Society as a result of the Rotary Lombardi Award.

The Foundation seeks to distribute up to ten percent of its corpus each year to fund one or more charitable programs or projects while continuing to build its corpus for larger initiatives. Grants are awarded to projects which further the goals and objectives of Rotary, with first priority given to those requests presented to the board by the RCH President to fund the club's community service activities.

The Foundation is the charitable arm of the Rotary Club of Houston and is managed by a Board of Directors which includes seven of the immediate Past Presidents of the Rotary Club of Houston.
