In October, 1887, a Denver woman, a Priest, two ministers and a Rabbi came together to form what is now called the United Way.
Now, one of the world’s largest privately funded charities, they now serve 95% of U.S. Communities and 37 countries and supports 48 million people every year through its network of 1800 local, nonprofit, fundraising affiliates. Revenues exceed five billion dollars-truly a major factor worldwide in helping the needy of our country and the world,
The Rotary Club of Houston is proud to bring to its podium, Amanda McMillian, President/CEO, United Way of Greater Houston, to discuss accomplishments and challenges facing its organization. For over 100 years, (almost as long as The Rotary Club of Houston), the local United Way has brought together diverse parties and novel approaches to get to the root of complex challenges holding back people.
